The people behind the care
Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of care.
They help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live with dignity, safety, independence, and purpose. Through daily living, personal care, transportation, behavioral and medication support, they show up — often through nights, weekends, and holidays.
They are caregivers, advocates, companions, problem-solvers, and protectors.
On November 19, Community Care Rx brings together families, colleagues, and community partners to honor these extraordinary professionals. Expect an evening of dinner, community, and heartfelt recognition: sharing our honorees’ stories and showing them their work is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.
More than a thank-you
Despite the importance and complexity of their work, many DSPs face financial hardship because of the low wages common across the field. They raise families, pursue education, and sometimes work multiple jobs while continuing to care for others.
